SOL Podcast Ep 13 The Surveillance State is Simply an Extension of Government

Please enjoy our recent episode of the Seeds of Liberty Podcast I co-host with Jeremy Henggeler and Dave Painter. This week we were joined by Michael Shanklin who, among other things, is the creator of Statism is Slavery. Herein we discussed how Michael found the path to freedom, playing politics and the view from inside the machine, marriage as a form of production, the origins of the Surveillance State, the aftermath of 9-11, the expiration of the Patriot Act and the equally euphemistically named Freedom Act, how the Taliban is simply more honest than the U.S. government, the hypocrisy of the claim that “you have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide”, how property rights are the backbone to a free society, why false fags may no longer be necessary, teaching kids to question everyone including their parents, and more!

For those who believe executive branch officials will voluntarily interpret their surveillance authorities with restraint, I believe it is more likely that I will achieve my life-long dream of playing in the NBA.

The Philosophy of Liberty: What Is Voluntaryism?

The question, “What is Voluntaryism?” is one that brings me particular joy in answering when it is asked with an open mind. We all have different perspectives on religion, culture, government, and life. Such overwhelming variety in opinion can be discouraging to some, but I invite this as an intellectual challenge. It is only when you step out of your comfort zone and test unfamiliar waters do you grow in any respect. If you are comfortable and complacent in all that you do, then you are not trying hard enough. One must put oneself in the difficult situations of defending one’s position in the midst of formidable debaters. This is the fertile soil in which spiritual growth is encouraged and nourished. Stir the waters of entrenched corrupt interests! Do not allow evil to go unpunished! The incessant vexing of political crooks is the noble occupation of the virtuous.

A government is a compulsory territorial monopolist of ultimate decision-making (jurisdiction) and, implied in this, a compulsory territorial monopolist of taxation. That is, a government is the ultimate arbiter, for the inhabitants of a given territory, regarding what is just and what is not, and it can determine unilaterally, i.e., without requiring the consent of those seeking justice or arbitration, the price that justice-seekers must pay to the government for providing this service.

Seeds of Liberty Podcast Ep 12: The War on Drugs is a War on the Individual

Please enjoy our recent episode of the Seeds of Liberty Podcast. This week we were joined by Cynthia Wells, an anarchist from Texas who, among other things, runs the Single Anarchists and Voluntaryists Facebook group. Herein we discuss how Cynthia became an anarchist, how most people live their day-to-day lives in anarchy, the destructive nature of collectivism, religion as a consequence of geographical location, statheists, the training law enforcement goes through, the benefits of private security, planting seeds during traffic stops, the Church of Beardism, how laws against actual aggressive acts are redundant, the origins of the War on Drugs, the potential number of deaths caused by the War on Drugs vs. the drugs themselves, messing up the kumbaya rainbow, the insanity of suicide being illegal, how the War on Drugs is a war on people, and more!

The War on Drugs employs millions – politicians, bureaucrats, policemen, and now the military – that probably couldn’t find a place for their dubious talents in a free market, unless they were to sell pencils from a tin cup on street corners.

If a man has the right to self-ownership, to the control of his life, then in the real world he must also have the right to sustain his life by grappling with and transforming resources; he must be able to own the ground and the resources on which he stands and which he must use. In short, to sustain his “human right.” – or his property rights in his own person- he must also have the property right in the material world, in the objects which he produces.

Murray Rothbard
