What Is Capitalism?

Wealth Distribution Under Socialism, Mixed Economy, and Free Market Capitalism, Standing On Boxes At A Baseball Game

“What is Capitalism?”

According to dictionary.com “Capitalism” is defined as:

1) an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and the exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.

The emphasis in this definition must be placed on private individuals. This is the only moral and humane system I can conceive of. Who better to manage the production, distribution, and management of wealth than those who have the most invested and who have their livelihood and that of their families dependent on its success?

It unreasonable to assert that if individuals are inherently corrupt, that we must therefore place power in the hands of political predators, who pay no price for their bad decisions, to manage and regulate the corrupt multitude. If individuals cannot be trusted to govern themselves how can we assume those who vie for the throne of power do so out of magnanimity and can govern 300 million people? It is much more likely that those who are attracted to positions of power are the vile scum who, due to their incompetence at providing value in the market that others would willingly patronize, instead seek to control, subjugate, and dominate peaceful individuals engaging in voluntary consensual trade. This is not Capitalism. This is Statism AKA Corporate Fascism.

At its very basic level, Capitalism is peaceful people engaging in voluntary consensual trade. Wherever this exists, there is Capitalism. Incidentally this is also compatible with Anarchy, since any State that seeks to involve itself in this thing of beauty will distort and pervert the natural self-regulating market forces of competition, price mechanism, and supply/demand. This results in many mutant forms of Statism, which include Socialism, Communism, Corporatism, and Fascism.

Law Abiding Citizen Is A Euphemism for Mental Slave, Face Chained Brain In A Cage

Please enjoy my recent Steemit article in which I outline my evolution as a Voluntaryist and Anarchist. It has been quite a journey thus far! I have learned much and there is still much to learn. The path to understanding the world a bit deeper is ecstatic and thrilling! We must endeavor to learn something new everyday, to deepen our understanding a bit more, to broaden our horizons a bit further. To become rigid and inflexible is to become mentally and spiritually stagnant. Embrace the world with unconditional love and it will embrace you back. Living and learning are inseparable. Each new day is a blessing and gift. Laugh more heartily, love deeper, listen more intently, observe the world with childlike fascination and curiosity. Our existence is but a drop in the ocean. Enjoy life while you have it! Cheers! 🙂

To live in the world without becoming aware of the meaning of the world is like wandering about in a great library without touching the books.

Individual Secession Is A Human Right

I Don't Consent To The System

Just like Anarchy, the idea of secession scares many people. It is simply an extension of the natural human right to dissociate or discriminate. As much as it is painful for many people to recognize, we all discriminate in our daily lives. It is impossible to live one’s life and not discriminate. Desires are infinite and resources are scarce. Therefore we need a rational system to allocate these scarce resources to those people who need them the most and can use them most efficiently. This system appears to be Free Market Capitalism and Austrian Economics. Any subversion of this self regulatory market will invite waste and inefficiency into an otherwise magnificent dance of beauty.

We discriminate when we choose which friends to have and which friends to not have, which people to date and which people to not date, which businesses to patronize and which to not patronize. We discriminate every waking day of our lives in every decision we make. It is unavoidable. My wife is supremely pleased that I discriminate against every other women to spend time with her every night.

When Anarchists and Voluntaryists talk about freedom, it must be the freedom to be a sexist, racist, bigot, homophobe etc. When we speak of freedom of speech it must be the freedom to speak the most offensive things. Nothing is taboo so long as it does not violate the self-ownership or property rights of another individual. No individual has special rights that everyone does not have. The right to secede from a friendship, relationship, or business is identical to the right to secede from the State. Free individuals do not ask permission to be free.

Secession is the Essence of Anarchy

“What is your goal? Smaller and more homogenous countries/nations/villages?”

Yes I most certainly advocate for decentralization down to the individual. There is no minority greater than the individual. If a “government” claims to defend minorities whilst trampling over the natural rights of peaceful individuals engaging in voluntary trade than that “government” is by definition illegitimate.

I would even go further to say that the idea of a legitimate “government” is an oxymoron. Even if there existed a “government” that did absolutely nothing, it is still subsisting by taxing the people, which is the violent robbery of currency from productive individuals who have legitimately earned that currency by using their talents, skills, and labor in the market.

Taxation is theft. If taxation were truly voluntary then the people would not have to be threatened with kidnapping, being thrown in a cage, being tasered, beaten, or murdered should they elect to not pay. If taxation were indeed voluntary then it no longer be taxation and the State would transform into a business providing a service/good that people voluntarily purchased. This would essentially be peaceful voluntary anarchy.

“Once one concedes that a single world government is not necessary, then where does one logically stop at the permissibility of separate states? If Canada and the United States can be separate nations without being denounced as in a state of impermissible ‘anarchy’, why may not the South secede from the United States? New York State from the Union? New York City from the state? Why may not Manhattan secede? Each neighbourhood? Each block? Each house? Each person?”  ― Murray N. Rothbard
